Ludovico Andrea D’Auria is an Italian photographer born in Rome and now based in London. For years, he has immersed himself in the underground scenes of these cities to capture their essence. However, the real starting point of his career was Berlin, where L.A.D. first felt the need to pick up his camera and start shooting as a reaction to a stagnant situation, finding in images a means to achieve a deep and reflective inner catharsis.
The theme of outcasts is what L.A.D. inevitably returns to in his project, whether it’s a reportage from the London Queer Fashion Shows, some stolen shots during a rave, or his ongoing project “When in Rome,” where he candidly explores the dynamics of his strongest connections with the city of his birth and the people who inhabit it.
What makes his photos even more interesting is the constant attention to aesthetics: his curation work intersects with graphic design, and his photographer’s gaze merges with that of an active and engaged eyewitness of the environments he depicts.
In his works, ethics, aesthetics, and intimate connections blend to create impactful and relational photography, with tones ranging between escapism and identity assertion.
